The aim at QStimating is to provide helpful workflows and applications for the use in the day to day duties of a quantity surveyor and estimator. With the emergence of artificial intelligence within the industry, many time-consuming tasks can now be automated. This is shifting the reliance on bespoke, proprietary software; closed systems that are often expensive, slow to adapt, and rarely built with the flexibility to accommodate the changing workflows every user inevitably needs. AI-driven tools offer a more responsive alternative: adaptable, transparent, and shaped around how QSs and estimators actually work, rather than forcing them to work around the software.

I created QStimating out of a curiosity and a fascination. After going down the AI rabbit hole over the last number of months, I believe that there is a genuine use case for this technology within the sector. Rather than trying to leverage this technology and wrap it up into some kind of proprietary system, the aim is to educate people so that they can build their own custom standardised workflows and applications.
"Build, Implement, Improve, Maintain"
I am a registered quantity surveyor under the Building Control Act 2007 and I am an associate member of the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland (Assoc. SCSI). I hold an honours degree in Construction Economics & Quantity Surveying, from the Atlantic Technological University (ATU) and a Higher Diploma in Engineering in Building Information Modelling (BIM), from ATU. I have over 20 years experience as a senior quantity surveyor and senior estimator within the industry. I have worked with tier one contractors and subcontractors, on projects ranging from €1 million to over a €100 million.
Modern quantity surveying generates a flood of data; drawings, BoQ's, spec documents, pricing libraries, programme schedules. AI tools now let QS and estimating teams cut through that volume; extracting takeoffs from CAD-exported PDFs, cross-checking BoQ items against drawings, structuring pricing libraries for fast retrieval, and flagging discrepancies.
AI works best as a specialist, not a generalist. Once a workflow like these is proven, it can be turned into a reusable skill, and packaged as a plugin your whole team can install and run.
The more-structured data you give a large language model, the better the results: you get out what you put in.
"AI won't do everything. It requires validation by the individual working with it, throughout the process rather than just at the end."
The below are a non-exhaustive list of tested workflows, which can be tailored to specific requirements, built with the assistance of AI.
Applications can be built with the assistance of AI, tailored to your requirements.
The below applications are provided free of charge for general information only.
